FCR calculator
Feed conversion ratio is the single number that says whether a cycle was run well. Every 0.05 you shave off is roughly 3% of your feed bill — and feed is 60–75% of what the bird cost to raise.

Feed consumed
You are 0.12 above standard, which is about 4,750 kg of extra feed for the same weight of chicken. The usual causes are feed wastage at the pan, water quality, subclinical coccidiosis, and heat stress cutting intake efficiency.

What pushes FCR up
Feed wastage at the pan
The most common and most fixable. Pans set too low, or filled too full, spill feed into the litter where it is never counted as waste — only as consumption.
Water quality and availability
Birds eat in proportion to what they drink. Blocked nipples, low pressure or high TDS water cuts intake efficiency before it shows anywhere else.
Subclinical coccidiosis
Damages gut lining without visible symptoms. Often the explanation when FCR drifts but mortality looks normal.
Heat stress
Above about 30°C birds eat less and convert what they eat less efficiently. This is why summer cycles almost always run worse.
Stocking density
Crowding in the last week raises FCR and mortality together. See the stocking density tool.
Mycotoxins in feed
Reduce nutrient absorption. Suspect them when a feed lot change lines up with a step change in performance.
